In the classroom at University of Maribor

It was an interesting experience and a pleasure to present lectures to very well educated and intelligent students. Almost all of them have been fluent in English. Many of them participated actively in class discussions. Modern classrooms facilitated my task.

With Zdenka in Piran

Professor Zdenka Zenko was one of my two hosts at the university. She helped to organize one of my courses and shared with me a lot of her experience in working with students. She also provided many good advices in practical matters to Lida. Professor Zenko guided us into the city of Maribor in the early days of our stay there. That help was extremely valuable.
On June 17, 2006, Zdenka invited us to a tour of two very interesting places in Slovenia. We visited with her the impressive and internationally famous cave of Postojna and the resort city of Piran on the Adriatic coast. Those visits became our introduction to the exceptionally reach natural treasures and cultural heritage of Slovenia.

With Vojko at the summer house

Professor Vojko Musil, Chairman of the Department of Technology, was one of my two hosts at the Faculty of Economics and Business in Maribor. His thoughtfulness, advice and support during the whole our stay in Maribor have been very valuable. Under his leadership, members of the Department helped me in resolving all technical and administrative problems related to teaching. At the end of the term, Vojko organized several excursions to beautiful resorts and historical places in eastern Slovenia such as Dobrna, Rogaska Slatina, Olimie (see pictures below). His wife Helga has also accompanied us in those trips.

With Drago in Maribor wine cellar

I held almost daily chats with professor Drago Gajst, lecturer of English language at the Univeristy of Maribor. I have been continuously impressed by his vibrant humor, an extraordinary fluency in several languages, and his deeply philosophical reflection on the European history. Conversations with Drago have always been stimulating and thought provoking. I have been touched by his personal stories and many similarities between our childhood experiences during and after the World War II.
On July 6, 2006, Drago arranged for us a memorable visit to the famous wine cellars under the city center of Maribor.

Slovenian landscape (5): Panoramic view from the road to Areh

On July 12, 2006, we visited the mountains of Pohorje at the invitation of Dr. Matjaz Denac. During the drive toward Areh we enjoyed the beauty of panoramic views on the surrounding valleys and wilderness of the forests. Matjaz demonstrated an impressive mastery in driving on the narrow mountain roads.
